Goose fightings is the old fun, they were not only preserved in Pavlov but turned into a serious competition as well that attracts geese breeders from various regions of the country.

In different parts of Russia people preserve and breed special, fighting, type of geese. In Pavlov people live who are the most dedicated to the occupation since exactly to the place goose breeders from various regions of Russia head every year for famous goose fights.

Goose fighting is the curious spectacle both for professionals and general public, it resembles scenes from the life of knights. Opponents come to fighting arena accompanied by ladies – those are two or three portly geese. Without them, male geese reject to engage in fighting – it’s not so interesting!

Well, now a team made of he-goose and she-geese rapidly approaches a similar group of the enemy, then the geese come to grips, while their lovely ladies turn into cheerleaders (they gaggle, flap their wings, yet they do not interfere with the fight).

The fight lasts 20-30 minutes, it may not be called ruthless and dangerous act. It is bloodless contest: sometimes the defeated goose, in depressed mood, simply leaves the ring, sometimes geese owners pull apart their pets and in that case the jury would name the winner.

At those competitions, the strict panel of judges is present, it shows marks for this or that move, removes points for the use of barred moves. Judges may disqualify a participant, for example, if it has pinched its opponent 's leg.

This year, as earlier, there will be two age groups present: young geese and experienced fighters. The fighters together with their owners will come from all corners of Nizhny Novgorod region, from the city of Nizhny Novgorod itself as well as guests will arrive from Moscow, Tula and Kursk regions.
