The Victory Day in Moscow: activities and places
On May 9, 2014, in Moscow the celebration of the 69-th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War takes place.
During the festivity concerts, activities to the honour of heroes, street theater performances, representative equestrian shows, exhibitions, tours and film screenings are offered to the residents of the city and tourists.
The main idea of the celebration this year is "The world remembers": worldwide recognition and the joy of the victory over fascism.
All celebration sites are decorated in the same style, for lighting design more than 2 kilometers of garlands are used.
At Nikolskaya Street 13 stelae are installed dedicated to the hero-cities and the Fortress of Brest. At Kuznetsky Most and Rozhdestvenka street the art objects in the shape of star with as high as 3.5 m are put.
At Stoleshnikov lane and VVTs the exhibition of the military covers of “Ogonyok” ("The Flame") magazine is held.
By tradition Poklonnaya (Reverence) Hill is the main venue for the celebration. The solemn events start at Poklonnaya Hill at 12.00 by the equestrian show "The Traditions of Russia".
At 14.00 within the frames of the XIII Moscow Easter Festival the renowned pianist Denis Matsuev accompanied by Mariynsky Theatre Symphony Orchestra conducted by Valery Gergiev performs here. Afterwards the parade "Immortal regiment" marches.
In the evening a concert featuring popular contemporary artists who will sing songs from the war years will take place. The celebration will be crowned by festive fireworks at 22:00.
Meanwhile at 14.00 at Tverskoy Boulevard the memory action "Moscow remembers" will begin. The descendants of the winners will go by the boulevard with the photographs of their relatives and family heirlooms - orders, medals and letters from the war fronts. On the eve of the Victory Day at the action Internet-site (http://moskva-pomnit.ru) the project "The Ribbon of Memory" has started that represents an online photo album.
In the park by Bolshoi Theater traditional meeting of war veterans will take place.
At Kamergersky lane students from creative high schools will perform scenes from military life.
At TsUM square the dance floor will operate.
At Tverskaya Square a gala concert will be held.
From May 5 to 10 the network of city movie theaters "Moscow Cinema" will feature the festival of military-patriotic movies “The Echelons of Memory – The Echelons of the Victory”.
Admission to all sites and the movies’ screenings is free of charge.
On May 9 one may see the films of the war years at Belorussky, Leningrad and Kiev railway stations from where in the time of the war soldiers and volunteers were leaving for the fronts.
