The International Festival “Gortsy” ("Highlanders") Attracted More Than 1500 Participants
The VI International festival of folklore and traditional culture “Gortsy” ("Highlanders") takes place in Dagestan from June 5 to 11, 2014, within the framework of the Year of Culture in Russian Federation.
The festival opens with the festive procession of artistic groups in traditional costumes by the central streets of the city of Makhachkala.
The festival programme features the conference "The Dialogue of Cultures", the festivity of arts of ashougs-storytellers and the old folk songs "Sing, ashoug!" as well as exhibitions and visiting concerts in cities and districts of Dagestan.
Since 2012, the festival is held under the auspices of UNESCO. This year the event has brought together the artistic groups from Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Turkey, Latvia, Slovakia, France and the regions of Russia: Kabardino-Balkaria, Karachay-Cherkessia, North Ossetia – Alania, Chechnya, Altay, Kalmykia, Mari El, Astrakhan, Rostov, Penza, Stavropol and Krasnodar territories and folklore ensembles of Dagestan.
The celebration "The Poetry of Folk Costume" will take place within the frames of the festival, too.
