The World Through the Eyes of Baby Mammoth Could be Seen at Sakhalin
In Sakhalin regional museum on July 3 the exhibition "World through the eyes of baby mammoth" has opened with the support of Ministry of Culture of Sakhalin Region. The exhibition is formed from the funds of Yamal-Nenets district museum and exhibition complex named after I.S. Shemanovsky (the city of Salekhard).
Two baby mammoths are presented at the exhibition – Lyuba and Masha.
The unique exhibit is mammoth Lyuba found at Yamal in May 2007. It is preserved much better than previously excavated young mammoths. The age of the animal is 1-3 months, its geological age is 42 000 years.
Prior to 2007, two most complete frozen bodies of baby mammoths were known in the world: the baby mammoth Dima found in 1977 in the upper reaches of the river Kolyma and baby mammoth Masha discovered at Yamal peninsula in 1988.
The exhibition is supplemented by excavated remains of animals and plants, working tools and household items of ancient man.
The people of Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk and the guests of the regional center may see the exhibits until September 7.
