City Easter Festival will take place in Moscow from April 19 to 27
For the second consecutive year the celebration of Jesus Christ Resurrection will spread outside the walls of churches and monasteries in order that Muscovites and the city guests could get acqainted with Easter traditions and participate in the citywide celebration.
The events will be organized in the central pedestrian areas, parks, museums, theaters, cinemas and cultural centers.
The opening of the festival "Easter in Moscow 2014" will take place on Easter night – on April 19. Nikolskaya street, Klimentovsky lane and Tverskaya square will become the main "pedestrian" sites of the event where video-screens broadcasting Easter liturgy from the Cathedral of Christ the Saviour will be installed.
Daily from April 20 to 27, from 12:00 to 19:00, at all central sites of the festival creative and culinary master classes for grown-ups and children will be organized, folklore and Orthodox groups will perform.
The personnel of Moscow museums will tell about the traditions of Easter celebration in Russia and European countries. Street theater artists will show performances for Muscovites and tourists.
A mobile belfry will ply between the places where earlier monasteries and churches of Russian Orthodox Church were situated. In 11 churches of Moscow the Orthodox Festival "Forty by Forty" will take place.
At central sites – Kamergersky and Klimentovsky lane, Nikolskaya, Arbat and Kuznetsky Most streets as well as at Tverskaya Square and Novopushkinsky park – 75 chalets will be set decorated in the same style. The events of the festival "Easter gift", including the charitable event "From Moscow - to veterans”, will take place there.
The drawings of the children who have participated in the competition "Moscow, that I love. Congratulations to veterans" (200 schools, 15 000 drawings) will become the main part of the action. Any person may purchase children drawings for the donation, the received money will be sent to the veterans and invalids of the Great Patriotic War.
On April 27, at Kuznetsky Most the charitable festivity "The joy of good deeds" will be held. The raised money will go to organizing care of the patients of the medical center of Martho-Mariynsky convent of mercy.
Muscovites and the city visitors will not only be spectators but active participants in all activities.
They will be offered to bake cakes, weave Easter baskets, get lessons in ringing bells, visit the exhibitions of ancient Russian icons and festive costumes.
At fairs handmade souvenirs and antiques could be be purchased.
The parks of the capital have prepared their own celebration programmes. For example, in Sokolniki the installation of "Faberge" eggs will be erected. In Hermitage Garden interactive celebration for children will take place. In "Northern Tushino" park visitors will be able to take part in the creation of an art object - Easter egg of half meter height.
The candid celebration of Jesus Christ Resurrection on the streets of the city is organized by the Complex of the city of Moscow on the issues of economic policy and property and land relations, the Department of Trade and Services of the city of Moscow, the Department of Culture of Moscow jointly with the Synodal Information Department of Moscow Patriarchate, the Patriarchal Council for Culture and Russian Orthodox University named after St. John the Revelator.
