On January 31, 2014, at the Museum of modern arts in the city of Birobidzhan the art exhibition "Jewish Autonomous Region in the paintings of Russian artists" was solemnly opened.

This event has started a number of activities dedicated to the 80-th anniversary of Jewish Autonomous Region.

The exhibition features landscapes, portraits, still lifes that make part of the collection of the Museum of modern arts. All in all nearly 60 works, some of them painted yet in the 60-s of the XX century, are featured at the exhibition. The authors of the works presented at the exhibition are not only painters and graphic artists of the region, but also painters from Moscow, Khabarovsk, Komsomolsk-on-Amur.

At the opening of the exhibition well-known painters, art school pupils, students of Birobidzhan regional college of culture, reporters and government officials were present.

The exhibition was opened by the Deputy Head of the Department of culture of Jewish Autonomous Region Svetlana Tromsa.

She said: “Today paintings included in the museum collection, represent not only artistic, yet historical value. As many views, especially of Birobidzhan, today can only be seen at pictures of old masters and at the photographs”.

That is the first event of the regional level devoted to the 80-th anniversary of Jewish Autonomous Region.

The exhibition will operate until the end of February.
