After its revival traditional fair of Tikhvin will be held this year on July 5 for the eleventh time in the village of Kholui in Yuzhsky area of Ivanovo region – reports the Department of sport and tourism of Ivanovo region.

This year the fair will be dedicated to the Year of culture in Russia and to several anniversary dates: the 85-th anniversary of Yuzhsky district formation, the 80-th anniversary of the lacquer miniature in the village of Kholui and the 120-th anniversary of Yuzhsky people theater.

Tikhvin Fair was started in the XVIII century to honour the icon of Our Lady of Tikhvin. In the XIX century the fair has become the largest one in Vladimir province. The popularity of fair in Kholui is explained by the location of the village on the banks of the river Teza that was part of the ancient trade route connecting the centers of the iconography and textile industries with the cities of Middle and Lower Volga regions.

In 2003 the tradition of Tikhvin fair in the village of Kholui was revived. The main aim of the fair is to show products of modern folk arts and crafts, products of crafts’ houses as well as give the culture of true fair entertainment back to people.

The folk craftsmen will offer fair guests lacquer miniatures, gzhel and khokhloma items, enamel, textile products.

At artistic sites folklore and theater groups from the towns of Yuzh, Mstiora and Ivanov will perform.

In the state museum of Kholui arts the exhibition named "Kholui – the pearl of the area, to the 80-th anniversary of Kholui artistic crafts” will be organized.

From the temple complex of Kholui cross procession will go – dedicated to the image of the Blessed Virgin of Tikhvin.
