The Activities Dedicated to the Finding of the Relics of St. Seraphim of Sarov to Take Place in Diveevo
On August 1, 2014, at 09:00 at the Cathedral Square of the Holy Trinity Seraphim-Diveevo nunnery a solemn service in commemoration of St. Seraphim of Sarov, one of the most revered Russian Orthodox saints, will be held.
On that day Russian Orthodox Church celebrates the second finding of the relics of St. Seraphim of Sarov, the miracle-maker.
The elder has died in 1833 in Sarov monastery in his cell while kneeling prayers. Seventy years later, in 1903, the elder Seraphim was glorified as the saint named the reverend Seraphim of Sarov.
In the 20-s of the twentieth century, the saint's relics were taken out of the monastery.
Until 1991, the location of the sacred relics remained unknown. In January 1991, the relics of St. Seraphim of Sarov were revealed in the vaults of the Museum of the History of Religion and Atheism situated in the building of Kazan Cathedral in Leningrad.
On August 1, 1991, the sacred relics were returned to Diveevo convent.
Nowadays thousands of pilgrims thrive to visit Diveevo convent to venerate the holy relics of St. Seraphim of Sarov, pray, ask for help, receive healing.
