The International Volkov Theatre Festival
The city of Yaroslavl is rightfully considered to be the birthplace of Russian theater. In 1750, Fyodor Grigoryevich Volkov has created the first Russian national theater in the city.
Volkov festival dates back to 2000 when the 250-th anniversary of the first Russian professional theater – Russian Drama Theatre named after Fyodor Volkov – was celebrated.
Since then, the festival takes place every year. In 2008 the festival new motto was adopted "Russian drama in the world languages". Such approach made it possible to form the special festival programme bringing the best Russian and foreign performances based on works created in Russian language to the homeland of Russian theater.
The festival participants include Russian professional theaters, representatives of provincial Russia, laureates of Russian Government Award named after F.G. Volkov.
